Focus and Flourish Tuition Safeguarding Policy

Focus and Flourish Tuition (Kathryn Cooper) is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all children and young people. This policy outlines the procedures followed to help ensure students are safe and supported, and how safeguarding concerns are identified and reported.

Purpose

The purpose of this safeguarding policy is to:

  • Protect all children and young people receiving tutoring services from Focus and Flourish Tuition from physical, emotional, or mental harm.
  • Respond appropriately to any safeguarding concerns, disclosures, or allegations relating to the welfare of students.
  • Ensure safeguarding knowledge and procedures remain current through regular training and policy review.

This policy is reviewed annually, or sooner if safeguarding guidance or legal requirements change.

Responsibilities

I, Kathryn Cooper, recognise my responsibility to safeguard the safety and wellbeing of all pupils in my care.

This includes:

  • Holding a valid Enhanced DBS certificate, registered with the DBS Update Service. My current DBS certificate is available for parents/carers to view on request.
  • Completing appropriate safeguarding and child protection training annually.
  • Keeping up to date with current safeguarding legislation, guidance, and best practice.
  • Following local safeguarding procedures and reporting concerns to the appropriate agencies promptly and correctly.

Reporting Safeguarding Concerns

If a child discloses abuse to me, or if I suspect a child may be at risk of harm, I will take immediate and appropriate action in line with Bristol’s local safeguarding procedures.

This may include contacting Bristol’s Multi-Agency Safeguarding Arrangements (MASA), First Response Team, or the police if a child is in immediate danger.

If a pupil discloses abuse, I will:

  • Listen carefully and take what they say seriously.
  • Allow the child to speak freely without interruption, prompting, or leading questions.
  • Reassure the child that they have done the right thing by speaking up.
  • Explain that I may need to share the information with appropriate professionals to help keep them safe.
  • Record the disclosure as soon as possible, using the child’s own words where possible.
  • Note the date, time, location, and anyone present during the disclosure.
  • Report concerns to the relevant safeguarding authority without delay.

If a child is in immediate danger:

Call 999 immediately.
